How Does BOTOX Work?

BOTOX injections reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes lines & wrinkles, to help your skin look visibly smoother. The botulinum toxin does this by selectively blocking chemical signals from nerves, which otherwise cause your muscles to contract. As your results sets in, your facial muscles can finally relax and soften.

What is BOTOX?

Botox is a brand name for a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It's a versatile treatment option that temporarily paralyzes muscles when injected. In our Orlando med spa, we utilize Botox for both cosmetic and medical applications, offering a range of treatments to meet our patients' unique needs.

How does BOTOX work?

Botox operates by blocking the transmission of nerve signals to the muscles where it's injected. This results in a temporary paralysis of the muscle, reducing or eliminating unwanted lines and wrinkles. It also provides relief from certain medical conditions by relaxing overactive muscles or glands.

Is BOTOX safe?

When administered by a trained medical professional, Botox is generally considered safe and effective. At our Orlando clinic, we adhere to stringent safety protocols to ensure the well-being of our patients. It's important to discuss your health history with your provider before receiving Botox to avoid any potential complications.

What does BOTOX treat?

Botox is most recognized for its use in treating wrinkles and fine lines by relaxing the underlying muscles. However, it's also approved for treating several medical conditions such as chronic migraines, overactive bladder, and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). At our Orlando practice, we provide Botox treatments tailored to individual patient needs.

How long does BOTOX last?

The effects of Botox typically last between 3 to 6 months, depending on the individual and the area treated. Over time, muscle action gradually returns and the treated areas begin to regain wrinkles and lines. Regular follow-up treatments can help maintain the desired effect.

Do you offer BOTOX for migraines?

Botox is an FDA-approved treatment for chronic migraines. By blocking the release of certain chemicals involved in pain pathways, Botox can reduce the frequency of migraines. Our Orlando practice offers this treatment for patients experiencing chronic migraines.

Do you offer BOTOX for TMJ and masseters near me?

Botox can alleviate Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and masseter hypertrophy by relaxing the involved muscles. It blocks nerve signals, thus preventing forceful contractions of the masseter muscles, which are responsible for chewing. This can relieve tension and pain associated with TMJ disorders and can decrease the size of the masseter muscles in cases of hypertrophy. However, these injections must be administered by a qualified professional to avoid issues like chewing and speaking difficulties. It's also important to note that this is typically considered an off-label use of Botox. In Orlando, our providers can discuss the benefits and risks of this treatment.

How much does BOTOX cost in Orlando?

The cost of BOTOX in Orlando ranges from $10 to $16 per unit. Our non-members pay $1r/unit and our VIP members pay $12/unit.

What's better: BOTOX vs Dysport?

For more than three decades, BOTOX® Cosmetic has been the top muscle relaxant, offering confidence in its long-term safety. With the most extensive range of FDA approvals for cosmetic applications, such as diminishing "crow's feet" and smoothing forehead lines and wrinkles, as well as medical purposes, including migraine relief and depression treatment, BOTOX® continues to impress. Dysport, a comparable toxin, is frequently more affordable for patients. We provide both options, but typically advise our patients to opt for BOTOX®.

How many BOTOX units do I need?

Your dose is determined by the strength of your muscle and number of areas that require treatment, along with your desired result and duration. Because of all these factors, the range is vast. Generally, from 25 units to 150 units.

Typical units per area:

  • Forehead: 8-20 units

  • "11's": 15-30 units

  • Crow's feet: 12-22 units

  • Bunny lines: 6-12 units

  • Botox lip flip: 4 units (MINIMUM 20 units per visit)

  • Masseters: 30-70 units

  • Chin dimpling: 6-10 units

  • Downturned mouth: 4-8 units

  • Neck: 30-50 units

Do BOTOX treatments hurt?

While everyone's pain tolerance varies, Botox injections involve minimal discomfort, often described as a slight pinch or sting. At our Orlando practice, we take measures to ensure the comfort of our patients, such as using a fine needle and possibly applying a topical anesthetic. Some injection sites may be more painful, particularly underarms, when used for treating excessive sweating.

What is the recovery time after BOTOX?

One of the benefits of Botox is the minimal recovery time. Most patients at our Orlando clinic can resume their normal activities immediately. Minor side effects like redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site typically subside quickly.

Can BOTOX be reversed?

Botox treatment results aren't immediately reversible. The effects of Botox gradually wear off over several months as the body naturally metabolizes the toxin. However, any concerns with results should be discussed promptly with your healthcare provider.

Does BOTOX prevent wrinkles?

Regular Botox cosmetic treatments can indeed help prevent the deepening of wrinkles. By relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles, Botox can prevent them from forming or getting worse. Many of our Orlando patients utilize Botox as a preventive anti-aging measure. To learn more about the right age to start BOTOX®, you can read our linked blog post.

How often should you get BOTOX?

The frequency of Botox treatments can vary based on individual needs and the area treated. Generally, the effects last between 3 to 6 months, after which patients often choose to have follow-up treatments. Your healthcare provider in Orlando can work with you to develop a personalized treatment schedule that optimizes your results and maintains the desired effects. We will make sure to tailor your treatment plan to your particular needs.

Does anything last longer than BOTOX?

Daxxify and Botox are neuromodulators utilized in the aesthetics industry as anti-wrinkle treatments. Like Botox, Daxxify's mode of action involves interrupting the communication between nerves and muscles, which results in muscle relaxation, thereby effectively minimizing the appearance and progression of facial lines and wrinkles. However, Daxxify distinguishes itself from Botox and other similar treatments in significant ways. One primary advantage is its longevity. While treatments like Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau typically show effectiveness for a span of about three to four months, Daxxify claims an average effective duration of six months, possibly even longer. This extended effect duration implies fewer treatments required annually, making it a more convenient and time-efficient choice for users who seek to maintain a youthful appearance. The defining feature of Daxxify lies in its unique peptide exchange technology, a characteristic that contributes to its enhanced longevity, thereby establishing a new benchmark in the domain of aesthetic treatments.
